Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide

For many people, the holiday season is not only the season of giving, it is the season of gaining weight. The holiday season is a time where indulgence is not only expected, but encouraged. The social green light for gluttony has many people abandoning their conscience, looking like chipmunks with their cheeks stuffed full of goodies as they go through the buffet for the third time. Even though they know they shouldn’t eat that third helping, they eat it because they think this will be the last time they can enjoy guilt-free eating. Most people will follow the New Year’s tradition of vowing to lose weight and get in shape in the upcoming year. With the thought of all the dietary restrictions they will have to endure in the near future, the average person will try to enjoy every last morsel before they have to “get healthy and watch what they eat”. They ignore their conscience and loosen their belt in an effort to get all they can out of the holiday food free-for-all. Instead of waiting

The Best New Tips For Beating Holiday Weight Gain

With the holiday season upon us there is a distinct dilemma most people will face.  How to enjoy all of the holiday celebrations without having to buy some new  “fat pants”. Now I know you’ve all heard the same bits of advice over and over, so I am going to give you some tips you may have never heard before. Be proactive. If you know you have a big party coming up on the weekend, watch what you eat during the entire week leading up to the party. This means no eating out, no junk food, and  no empty calories during the week. The day of the party try to avoid starches, fat and sodium since you will most likely be getting plenty of those at the party. Lift weights. Yes, you read that correctly. Just This Once

“It’s just this once.” Such a small sentence, yet so powerful. It’s logic seems sound, so you start to falter in your decision to remain strong in the face of temptation. Sensing weakness, they throw out, “A little won’t hurt.” You know that a little might hurt, but you’re not sure how much it will hurt, so you stand on the brink of indecision. That’s when they go for the kill shot, “You don’t want to hurt Aunt Betty’s feelings.” Seemingly sound logic, indecision and a side order of guilt have just killed your resolve, and now you are elbow deep in a plateful of food that has more calories than you need for the next two days. A common scenario for anyone trying to lose weight. I can’t even count how many times the “it’s just this once” card was played on me as I lost weight.  The people around me didn’t seem to understand that “it’s just this once” is a total lie. I went through all of the birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays that I will celebrate in a year and found that I have appr

My First Post

Hello! Welcome to Vitalize Health And Fitness, where healthy lifestyles are made by making one healthy choice at a time. As a former fat chick turned fitness fanatic, I am in the unique position of understanding weight loss from an entirely personal perspective. It is from this perspective that I will address all things relating to weight loss, health and fitness. I know all the excuses. I don’t have time to workout. Join the club. Everybody is busy and there are never enough hours in the day. I don’t like to eat “healthy” food. Get over it. Either you want to lose weight or you don’t. I chase after my kids all day, that’s the same as working out. Nice try. Once you start working out, you will see there is no comparison between the two. Now, I make time for my workouts. Guess being busy watching Food Network, really isn’t being busy after all. Now, I enjoy eating healthy. Who knew there were so many different ways to make salad? Now, I realize that chasing after my kids is nothing like
